Abby Lee Miller is an American dance instructor, television personality, choreographer, and author. She founded the Abby Lee Dance Company in Pittsburgh, and has owned a studio in Los Angeles. She is known for appearing on the reality show Dance Moms .
Abby is the daughter of Maryen, a dance teacher and studio owner, of the Maryen Lorrain Dance Studio; and George Miller. She was raised in the Pittsburgh suburb Penn Hills, and later renamed her mother’s studio Reign Dance Productions.
Abby’s paternal grandfather was George Raymond Miller (the son of Samuel J. Miller and Annie Permelia Metz). George was born in Lost Creek, West Mahanoy Township, Schuylkill, Pennsylvania. Annie was the daughter of David Metz and Mary Ann Mattison.
Abby’s paternal grandmother was Ida May Baker (the daughter of John M. Baker and Kate Shawhan). Kate was the daughter of Oliver O. Shawhan, whose grandfather was Irish; and of Hannah Hershberger.
Abby’s maternal grandfather was named Terrance O. McKay. Terrance was born in Southampton, Hampshire, England.
Abby’s maternal grandmother was Marion Gertrude MacDonald (the daughter of James Albert McDonald and Mary Kelly). Marion was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Irish parents.
