Abdel Fattah el-Sisi (عبد الفتاح السيسى) is an Egyptian politician, and military officer. He has been President of Egypt, since 8 June, 2014. He took power following the 2013 coup by the Egyptian military. He has also been Director of Military Intelligence, from 3 January, 2010 to 12 August, 2012; Minister of Defence, and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, both, from 12 August, 2012 to 26 March, 2014; Deputy Prime Minister of Egypt, from 16 July, 2013 to 26 March, 2014; and Chairperson of the African Union, from 10 February, 2019 to 10 February, 2020. He was a General and Field Marshal. Egypt is usually described as an authoritarian regime under Abdel’s rule.
Abdel is the son of Soad (Mohamed/Ibrahim) and Said Hussein Khalil al-Sisi. His parents were from Monufia Governorate. He was raised in Gamaleya. Abdel served in the Egyptian Army, from 1977 to 2014. He is married to Entissar Amer, with whom he has four children, including Mahmoud el-Sisi, who has been Deputy Head of General Intelligence Directorate, since June 2018. One of his sons is married to the daughter of military figure Mahmoud Hegazy. Abdel and his wife Entissar are cousins.
