He is the son of Mary and Edward Kowalcyzk. He is the brother of singer, songwriter, and musician Ed Kowalczyk .

Adam’s paternal grandmother was Stanislawa Marcyana Malecki (the daughter of Bronislaw Malecki and Marcianna Dombrowski). Stanislawa’s parents were Polish.
Adam’s maternal grandfather was Woodrow Wilson Weigel (the son of Lewis M. Weigel and Katie Hershey). Woodrow was of German descent. Lewis was the son of William H. Weigel and Harriet Melhorn. Katie was the daughter of Jacob H. Hersey and Lydia Stauffer.
