Al Freeman, Jr. was an American actor, director, and educator. He appeared in many stage roles, on television’s One Life to Live , The Cosby Show , Law & Order , Homicide: Life on the Street , and The Edge of Night , and in the films Malcolm X , Once Upon a Time… When We Were Colored , and Down in the Delta .

He was the son of Lottie Brisette (Coleman) and Albert Cornelius Freeman, a jazz pianist. He served in the Air Force in the Korean War. Al was married to Sevara E. Clemon, until his death.
