Sir Alex Ferguson is a Scottish professional footballer, and manager. A forward, he played for Queen’s Park, St Johnstone, Dunfermline Athletic, Rangers, Falkirk, and Ayr United, and for Scotland Amateurs, the Scotland national team, and Scottish Football League XI. He managed East Stirlingshire, St Mirren, Aberdeen, the Scotland national team, and Manchester United.
Alex is the son of Elizabeth and Alexander Beaton Ferguson. He was married to Cathy Holding, until her death, with whom he has three children; including Darren Ferguson, who is also a football manager and player.
Alex’s paternal grandfather was named John Ferguson (the son of Robert Ferguson). John was born in Renton, Dumbartonshire. Robert was the son of Robert Ferguson and Ann Scullion.
