Alex Kendrick is an American Baptist pastor, film writer, author, producer, director, and actor. He is active in faith-based/Christian films. He has directed and co-written the films Flywheel , Facing the Giants , Fireproof , Courageous (2011), War Room (2015), Overcomer , and The Forge (2024); he starred in all but the latter film. He also co-wrote the film Lifemark , and co-starred in the films The Lost Medallion: The Adventures of Billy Stone , Moms’ Night Out , and Show Me the Father .
He is the son of Rhonwyn and Larry Kendrick. His brother is writer and producer Stephen Kendrick, who was a co-writer on all of Alex’s scripts. Alex is married to Christina, with whom he has six children.
Alex’s maternal grandfather was Henry Leo “Buster” Hall (the son of Samuel Richard Hall and Mary Etta Cannady). Henry was born in Georgia. Samuel was the son of Lorensa Dow Hall.
Alex’s maternal grandmother was Edna Ann May (the daughter of James William Washington May and Irene Elizabeth Castleberry). Edna was born in Georgia. James was the son of John Anderson May and Sarah Ann “Sallie” Alderman. Irene was the daughter of Thomas Alexander Castleberry and Nancy Jane Elizabeth Dunn.
