Alex Proyas is an Australian film director, screenwriter, and producer. He has directed the films Spirits of the Air, Gremlins of the Clouds ; The Crow (1994), Dark City , Garage Days , I, Robot ; Knowing , and Gods of Egypt , and also wrote his Spirits and co-wrote his Dark City and Garage Days . He has also directed many short films and music videos, including for “Kiss the Dirt,” “Don’t Dream It’s Over,” “Rhythm of Love,” “Nineteen Forever,” and “When We Dance.”
He was born in Alexandria, Egypt, to ethnic Greek parents. His father was an Egyptiot, a Greek-Egyptian, whose family had lived in Egypt for generations. His mother is a Greek Cypriot. His family moved to Waterloo, a surburb of Sydney, Australia, when he was three. Alex is married to artist Catherine “Cathy” Linsley, who has worked on his films.
