She was born in São José do Rio Preto, São Paulo, the daughter of Maria Manuela Abreu and João Thomaz da Fonseca. Her father was born in Namibe, Angola, of Portuguese descent, and her mother is Portuguese. The family moved to West Palm Beach, Florida, when Ana Carolina was eleven years old.
