Ana de Armas is a Cuban actress. Her roles include the films Virgin Rose , Sex, Party and Lies ; Por un puñado de besos , Knock Knock (2015), Exposed , Hands of Stone , War Dogs (2016), Overdrive , Blade Runner 2049 , The Informer (2019), Wasp Network , Knives Out , Sergio (2020), The Night Clerk , No Time to Die , Deep Water , The Gray Man , Blonde (2022), Ghosted (2023), Eden (2024), and From the World of John Wick: Ballerina ; the Spanish shows El Internado and Hispania, la leyenda ; the music video for “Antes Que El Mundo Se Acabe;” and the video game Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 .

She is the daughter of Ana Caso, who worked at the Ministry of Education, and Ramón, who was a bank manager, teacher, school principal, and town deputy mayor. She was born in Havana, Cuba and raised in the seaside town of Santa Cruz del Norte. Her brother is professional photographer Francisco Javier de Armas Caso. Ana moved to Madrid, Spain, when she was eighteen to pursue an acting career. She is also a Spanish citizen.

Ana’s maternal grandfather is named Adolfo Caso Pérez. Adolfo was born in Cuba, to parents from Valverde de Balboa, Castile and León, Spain.

Ana’s maternal grandmother is Maruja Álvarez Merino (the daughter of Alejandro Álvarez Rojo and María Merino Martinéz). Maruja was born in Guardo, Palencia, Castile and León, Spain. María was the daughter of Santiago Merino Blanco.

Ana, Catalina Sandino Moreno (for Maria Full of Grace , 2004), Yalitza Aparicio (for Roma , 2018), Ariana DeBose (for West Side Story , 2021), America Ferrera (for Barbie , 2023), and Monica Barbaro (for A Complete Unknown , 2024), are thus far the only actors of Latin-American descent born after 1980 to have been nominated for an acting Oscar, with Ariana having won.
