Andrea Leeds was an American film actress, and horse breeder. She was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for Stage Door (1937). She was also known for her roles in the films Asegure a su mujer , Song of the Trail , Forgotten Faces , Come and Get It , It Could Happen to You (1937), The Goldwyn Follies , Letter of Introduction , Youth Takes a Fling , They Shall Have Music , The Real Glory , Swanee River , and Earthbound (1940). She was also billed as Antoinette Lees.
She was the daughter of Lina Valencia and Charles Edward Leeds, a mining engineer. Her father was English. Her mother was Italian. She spent much of her childhood in Mexico, for her father’s job. Andrea was married to Robert Stewart Howard, until his death, with whom she had two children. Robert was the son of Charles S. Howard, a prominent automobile dealer and thoroughbred racehorse owner, who owned Seabiscuit. Andrea and Robert owned the Howard Manor in Palm Springs.
Andrea’s paternal grandfather was named John Charles Lees (the son of Charles Henry Lees and Sarah Ann). John was born in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, to parents who were also born there. Andrea’s great-grandfather Charles was the son of Charles Lees and Elizabeth Smith.
Andrea’s paternal grandmother was named Elizabeth Barfield Asher.
