Anika Noni Rose is an American singer and actress. She is known for her roles in the films Dreamgirls and The Princess and the Frog , in the latter voicing Tiana, Disney’s first African-American princess. On stage, she has won the Tony for Caroline, or Change and been nominated for A Raisin in the Sun .
Her parents are both African-American. She is married to actor Jason Dirden .
Referring to having taken a DNA test, she has said :
I found out that I’m from the West Coast of Africa… And I am very British and very Irish and some Native American – black foot, Virginia, and one Asian. I expected it, because I know what my people look like. It’s very, very interesting.
