She is the daughter of Kaija and Mikko Shemeikka. Her parents are dairy farmers. Anna is married to American baseball coach Rob McKinley, with whom she has a daughter.
Anna is descended from Pedri Shemeikka (Petri Šemeikka), a Karelian poet. Pedri was born in Muuanto, Finland, now Russia.
