Antoine Griezmann is a French professional footballer. A forward and attacking midfielder, he plays for Atlético Madrid. He was previously with Real Sociedad and Barcelona, and the France national team.
Antoine is the son of Isabelle and Alain Griezmann. His father is of at least part German descent. His mother is of Portuguese ancestry; her family is from Paços de Ferreira. At fourteen, he left France for the academy at Real Sociedad, the Spanish football club, based in the city of San Sebastián, Basque Country. Because of this, in France he has been regarded as more Spanish than French by the local press.
Antoine is married to Erika Choperena, who is from Basque country in Spain. The couple has three children.
Antoine’s paternal great-grandparents were Emile Léger Grieszmann and Marie Grieszmann. Marie was the daughter of Victor Ernest Grieszmann, who was born in Meung-sur-Loire, Loiret, France, and of Marie Stéphanie Zeph, who was born in Pas-de-Calais, France; they were of German descent. Antoine’s great-grandparents were cousins.
Antoine’s maternal grandfather was named Amaro Lopes. Amaro was a footballer for F.C. Paços de Ferreira.
Antoine’s maternal grandmother was named Carolina.
