Armand van Helden is an American DJ, record producer, remixer, and songwriter. He is known for his involvement in house music. He has been billed under the acts Deep Creed, Sultans of Swing, Banji Boys, Circle Children, Old School Junkies, Jungle Juice, Armand & The Banana Spliffs, Hardhead, Wizzards of Wax, The Mole People, Chupacabra, and electronic music superduo Duck Sauce, the latter with A-Trak .
His father was in the U.S. Air Force, and Armand thus traveled around the world as a child, spending time in the Netherlands, Latvia, Turkey, and Italy.
Armand’s maternal grandfather was Richard Lawrence Zewiey (the son of George John Zewiey and Josephine De Corey/Decora). Richard was born in Massachusetts. George was born in Tripoli, Lebanon. Josephine was born in Maine, to Lebanese parents, Carmel/Campbell DeCorey/Decora, from Diman, and Eva Moses, from Tripoli.
Armand’s maternal grandmother was Estelle Marie Martel (the daughter of Edward Irving Martel and Lucienne/Lucille M. Smith). Estelle was born in New Hampshire, of French-Canadian descent. Edward was the son of Joseph A. Martel, who was born in Canada, and Delia St. Pierre, who was born in New Hampshire, to Canadian parents. Lucienne was the daughter of William D. Smith and Azelia/Elizea/Zelia Gouin.
