Auli’i Cravalho is an American actress and singer. She has voiced the title character Moana in the Disney animated film of the same name, and in other works. Her roles also include the films All Together Now , Crush (2022), Darby and the Dead , and Mean Girls (2024), the series Rise (2018), The Power (2023), and, in voice performance, Hailey’s On It! ; and the television specials The Little Mermaid Live! , Harmonious Live! , and Lego Disney Princess: The Castle Quest .

Auli’i is the daughter of Puanani and Dwayne Cravalho. Her father is of three quarters Puerto Rican and one quarter Portuguese descent. Her mother is of five eighths Native Hawaiian, one quarter Portuguese, 3/32 Chinese, and 1/32 Irish, ancestry. Her ancestry is mentioned here . Auli’i was partly raised in Mililani, Hawaii.

Auli’i’s paternal grandfather was Christino Cravalho/Caravalho (the son of Genaro/Jenaro/Janaro/Janeiro/Henaro Caraballo/Caravalho/Carvalho y Montijo and Isabel/Isabella/Isabelle Cordero/Cordeiro y Robles). Christino was born in Kona, Hawai’i. Jenaro was a Puerto Rican emigrant, from San Sebastián, and was the son of Juan Carvalho y Cajigas and María de Jesús Montijo y Aponte.

Auli’i’s paternal grandmother was Elizabeth Medeiros (the daughter of John Medeiros Chiquito and Josephine Ramos). Elizabeth was born in Hilo, Hawaii. John was the son of Portuguese emigrants, António Medeiros Chiquito and Rosa de Jesus Rebello Couvinha. Josephine was the daughter of Puerto Rican emigrants, Dionicio Ramos Collazo, of Yauco, and Antonia Pérez.

Auli’i’s maternal grandfather was Robert Freitas (the son of Manuel Freitas and Josephine Kahiwa Ako). Robert was born in Kamalumalu, Hawaii. Manuel was the son of Portuguese emigrants, José “Joseph/Joe” Freitas and Antónia Santos, both of Madeira. Josephine was of Native Hawaiian, Chinese, and Irish descent, and was the daughter of James Kopo Ako and Margaret Makaleka Kahinano Ahana.

Auli’i’s maternal grandmother was Amy Mokihana Keanaaina (the daughter of William Nuuanu Keanaaina and Emily Julian Kapanui). Amy was Native Hawaiian, and was born in Kailua, Hawaii. William was the son of William Keanaaina and Malaea Noenoe Haau. Emily was the daughter of Jacob Kopa Kapanui and Emily Moeanu Kapana Nuinui.
