Ban Ki-moon is a South Korean politician and diplomat. He has served as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade (in South Korea), from 17 January, 2004 to 1 December, 2006, and Secretary-General of the United Nations , from 1 January, 2007 to 31 December, 2016.

Secretary-General Ban is the son of Shin Hyun-soon and Ban Myung-hwan. He is married to Yoo Soon-taek, with whom he has three children.
