Ben Folds is an American musician and record producer. He was the vocalist and pianist of alternative rock band Ben Folds Five. He was also part of supergroup 8in8, with Neil Gaiman and Amanda Palmer .
His father, Carlos Folds, is a carpenter. His mother, Sylvia, is a painter. Ben has two children with his former wife, Australian musician Frally Hynes.
Ben’s maternal grandfather was Charles Edgar Kellam, Jr. (the son of Charles Edgar Kellam and Hattie Anna Hicks). Ben’s grandfather Charles was born in High Point, North Carolina. Ben’s great-grandfather Charles was the son of Samuel Alford Kellam and Frances Catherine Parker. Anna was the daughter of James Franklin Hicks and Mary Charlotte Wright.
Ben’s maternal grandmother was Lois Mae Scott (the daughter of Olie Odham Scott and America Ann Watson). Lois was born in New Madrid, Missouri. Olie was the son of Wiley Washington Scott and Armilda M. Fitzgerald.
