Benoît Hamon is a French politician. He has been Minister for the Social Economy, from 16 May, 2012 to 31 March, 2014, and Minister of National Education, from 2 April, 2014 to 25 August, 2014; as well as, a Member of the European Parliament from East France, from 13 June, 2004 to 7 June, 2009; and a Member of the National Assembly for Yvelines’s 11th constituency, from 20 June, 2012 to 21 July, 2012, and again, from 27 September, 2014 to 20 June, 2017. He was the nominee of the Socialist Party in the 2017 French presidential election, and lost in the first round.
