Bill Belichick is an American professional football player and coach. He famously coached the New England Patriots of the National Football League (NFL) for twenty three years; and was also their assistant HC/DB coach, and then their de facto GM. A center and tight end, he played for Wesleyan. He coaches North Carolina. He was previously special assistant coach for the Baltimore Colts, assistant ST coach, and then WR/TE, for the Detroit Lions; assistant ST/def. assistant for the Denver Broncos; ST/def. assistant, then ST/LB, then DC coach, for the New York Giants; coach, and de facto GM, of the Cleveland Browns; and assistant HC/DC coach for the New York Jets.
Bill is the son of Jeannette Ruth (Munn) and football player and coach Steve Belichick (Stephen Nickolas/Nicholas Belichick). His paternal grandparents moved from Croatia to Monessen, Pennsylvania. His mother’s ancestry includes Colonial American roots in Massachusetts, Vermont, and New Hampshire. He has three children with his former wife Debby Clarke.
