Bill Parcells is an American professional football coach. An offensive lineman, he was signed with the Detroit Lions of the National Football League (NFL). He was specifically a linebackers coach for Hastings, Wichita State, Army, Florida State, Vanderbilt, and the New England Patriots; specifically a defensive coordinator for Army and the New York Giants; simultaneously a defensive coordinator & linebackers coach for Texas Tech and the New York Giants; and head coach for Air Force, the New York Giants, the New England Patriots, the New York Jets, and the Dallas Cowboys. He was also general manager of the New England Patriots and the New York Jets, and executive VP of football operations for the Miami Dolphins. He was nicknamed “The Big Tuna.”
Bill is the son of Ida and Charles Parcells, who had played quarterback at Georgetown University, and later worked for the FBI and as a lawyer. He was raised in Hasbrouck Heights, near Englewood, and then Oradell. His parents were born in New Jersey. Bill has three children with his former wife Judith Goss. His daughter Dallas is married to professional football executive Scott Pioli.
Bill’s paternal grandfather was Charles Doyenne Parcells (the son of Charles Doyenne Parcells and Johannah O’Keefe).
Bill’s paternal grandmother was Esther L. St. George (the daughter of Thomas F. St. George and Julia Donahue). Esther’s parents were Irish.
