Bindi Irwin is an Australian television personality, conservationist, zookeeper, and actress. She has starred in the films Free Willy: Escape from Pirate’s Cove and Return to Nim’s Island . She has hosted the shows Bindi the Jungle Girl , Bindi’s Bootcamp , and Steve Irwin’s Wildlife Warriors , and been featured on Crikey! It’s the Irwins and Spidey and His Amazing Friends ; and won a Daytime Emmy and Silver Logie for her work.
Bindi is the daughter of Steve Irwin (Stephen Robert Irwin), known as The Crocodile Hunter, and Terri Irwin. Her father was Australian. Her mother is American, from Eugene, Oregon. Bindi is also a U.S. citizen. Her name is after her father’s favourite crocodile at the Australia Zoo. Bindi is married to American professional wakeboarder Chandler Powell, with whom she has a daughter.
Bindi’s paternal grandfather was Robert Eric “Bob” Irwin (the son of Joseph Ronald Irwin and Marjory/Marjorie Whitworth). Robert was born in Melbourne, Victoria. Joseph was born in Prahran, Victoria, Australia, the son of George Joseph William Irwin, whose father was from Dublin, Ireland; and of Agnes May Telfer, whose father was from Carrington, Lothian, Scotland, and whose maternal grandparents were English, from Northamptonshire and Somerset, respectively. Bindi’s great-grandmother Marjorie was born in Pontefract, Yorkshire, England, the daughter of Harry Whitworth and Emily Hebden/Hebdon.
Bindi’s paternal grandmother was Lynette/Lyn Lesley/Leslie Hakainsson (the daughter of Francis John Hakainsson and Vesta May Broadbent). Lynette was born in Moreland, Victoria. Francis was born in Benalla, Victoria, the son of Francis Robert Hakainsson, whose father was Swedish, from Älvsborg, and whose maternal grandfather was from Alva, Stirling, Scotland; and of Ada Alice Long. Bindi’s great-grandmother Vesta was born in Canterbury, New South Wales. Her father, George Robert Broadbent, had paternal grandparents from Preston, Lancashire, England, and County Tyrone, Ireland, respectively, and maternal grandparents from Baltinglass, County Carlow, Ireland. Vesta’s mother, Agnes Eliza Cooper, had English grandparents, from Surrey and Middlesex, respectively, on her father’s side, and from Middlesex and Kent, respectively, on her mother’s side.
Bindi’s maternal grandfather was Clarence Alonzo Raines (the son of Alonzo Clarence Raines and Grace Mae Pyle). Bindi’s grandfather Clarence was born in Eugene, Lane, Oregon. Bindi’s great-grandfather Alonzo was born in Lacomb, Linn, Oregon, the son of Charles Legrand/Legrande Raines and Ella A. Harris. Grace was born in Oroville, Butte, California, the daughter of Henry Carey Pyle and Elisabeth/Elizabeth Isabel “Eliza Belle” Burton.
Bindi’s maternal grandmother was Julia May “Judy” Cline (the daughter of William Edward Ernest Cline and Nelle/Nellie May Davis). Julia was born in Youngstown, Mahoning, Ohio, and was raised on a ranch in Washington. Her parents were from Ontario, Canada. William was the son of Simeon J. Cline and Margaret Pilkey. Nellie was born in Hamilton, the daughter of Joseph Henry Davis and Ida Louisa Burton, whose maternal grandparents were from Plumstead, Norfolk, England, and Ireland, respectively.
