Bob Uecker was an American professional baseball player and broadcaster, and actor. A catcher, he played for the Milwaukee Braves, the St. Louis Cardinals, the Philadelphia Phillies, and the Atlanta Braves of Major League Baseball (MLB). He broadcast for the Milwaukee Brewers. His acting roles include George Owens on Mr. Belvedere and play-by-play announcer Harry Doyle in the Major League films. He was nicknamed “Mr. Baseball.”
Bob was the son of Mary C. and August Gustav “Gus” Uecker. His father was a Swiss-German emigrant, from Basel, Basel-Stadt. His mother was born in Michigan, and had German and Irish ancestry. Bob was married to Judy, until his death. He had four children with his former wife Joyce Irene Jahn.
Bob’s maternal grandfather was George Anton Schultz (the son of George Schultz and Katherine Bock). Bob’s grandfather George was born in Hancock, Michigan, to German parents.
Bob’s maternal grandmother was named Mary J. Driscoll (the daughter of Julia Driscoll). Mary was born in Houghton County, Michigan. Julia was born in Houghton County, the daughter of Floranc/Florance Clarence Driscoll and Nora/Honora/Hanna Mullens/Mullins, who were emigrants from Cork, Ireland. Mary is marked as “illegitimate” on her birth record, which lists her father as “unknown.”
