She is the daughter of Kathleen and Robert Elliott, a city manager.

Brooke’s paternal grandfather was Paul John Elliott (the son of James William Elliott and Mary Josephine Bishop). Paul was born in St. Louis, Missouri. James was the son of William James Elliott and Edith Jane Carson, and had deep American roots. Mary was the daughter of Joseph H. Bishop and Catherine Coggle/Morrisey, who was from Belfast.

Brooke’s paternal grandmother was Bertha Agnes “Bea” Hircy (the daughter of Károly “Charles” Hircy/Hirczy and Justina Augusta Mikitisch). Bertha was born in Missouri, to ethnic Hungarian parents, from either Raks, Vas, Hungary, or Güssing, Burgenland, Austria, in the border between the countries. Károly was the son of Andras Hirczy and Teréz Dax. Justina was the daughter of Aloisysus “Alois” Mikikics and Anna Kárlovics.

Brooke’s maternal grandfather was Raymond Frank Hoffmann (the son of Walter George Hoffmann and Verna Loretta Cronkhite). Raymond was born in Chicago, Illinois. Walter was the son of John Hoffmann, who was German, from Darmstadt, Hessen; and of Mary Stefler/Stellpflugm, whose parents were also German, from North Rhine-Westphalia and Hannover, Lower Saxony, respectively. Brooke’s great-grandmother Verna was the daughter of Frank Andrew Cronkhite, who had Dutch and English ancestry; and of Mary Frances Farrell, whose father was Irish, from Waterford, and whose maternal grandparents were also Irish.

Brooke’s maternal grandmother was Margaret Mary Carroll (the daughter of James Michael Carroll and Sarah Etta Kane). Margaret was born in Chicago, Illinois. James was the son of Irish emigrants, Elly James Carroll, from Emly, County Tipperary; and Elizabeth M. O’Keefe, from Charleville, County Limerick. Brooke’s great-grandmother Sarah was the daughter of Edgar Harley Kane, who had deep roots in the U.S.; and of Mary Louise Laughlin, whose father was Irish.
