Bruce Bennett was an American actor and athlete, and businessperson. He starred as Tarzan in the film The New Adventures of Tarzan (1935); his roles also included the films Danger Patrol , Amateur Crook , Before I Hang , Underground Agent , Frontier Fury , Sahara (1943), Mildred Pierce (1945), The Doctor and the Girl , Angels in the Outfield (1951), Sudden Fear (1952), Dragonfly Squadron , The Big Tip Off , Love Me Tender , The Alligator People , and The Clones (1973). He was a successful college athlete in football, and in intercollegiate and international track-and-field competitions. In 1928, he won the Silver medal for the shot put at the Olympic Games in Amsterdam. he was also credited as Herman Brix.
Bruce was the son of Minna Christina Margaretha and Anton Heirich Brix. His parents were German emigrants, from Schleswig-Holstein, with Danish heritage. He was married to Jeannette C. Braddock, until her death, with whom he had two children.
