Cap Anson was an American professional baseball player and manager. A first baseman, he played for the Rockford Forest Citys, the Philadelphia Athletics, and the Chicago White Stockings/Colts of Major League Baseball (MLB). He managed the Philadelphia Athletics, the Chicago White Stockings/Colts, and the New York Giants. He was nicknamed “Cap” and “Pop.”
Cap was the son of Jennette (Rice) and Henry Anson. He was married to Virginia Fiegal, until her death, with whom he had seven children.
Cap’s paternal grandfather was named Warren Anson (the son of Jonathan Anson). Jonathan was the son of Silas Anson/Austin.
