Carles Puigdemont is a politician and journalist. He has been President of Together for Catalonia, since 27 October, 2024, and, previously, from 9 August, 2020 to 4 June, 2022. He has also been Mayor of Girona, from 1 July, 2011 to 11 January, 2016, and President of the Government of Catalonia, from 12 January, 2016 to 27 October, 2017; as well as, a Member of the Parliament of Catalonia for Girona, from 10 November, 2006 to 27 October, 2017, for Barcelona, from 17 January, 2018 to 30 July, 2018, and again, for Barcelona, since 10 June, 2024; a Member of the Municipality Council of Girona, from 11 June, 2007 to 11 January, 2016; and a Member of the European Parliament for Spain, from 2 July, 2019 to 15 July, 2024.
He is the son of Núria Casamajó i Ruiz and Xavier Puigdemont i Oliveras. He is married to Romanian journalist Marcela Topor, with whom he has two children.
Carles’ patrilineal ancestry can be traced back to his seventh great-grandfather, Paulí Puigdemont.
