Caroline Polachek is an American musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer. She is a member of synth-pop band Chairlift.
Caroline was raised in Japan and Connecticut. She has said that she has some French ancestry on her mother’s side.
Caroline’s paternal grandfather was Monroe M. Polachek (the son of Arthur/Aron Polachek and Barbara Baura Aneisz/Aneis). Monroe was born in Slovakia, to a Jewish family. Arthur was born in Lastomír, Michalovce District, Košice Region. Barbara was born in Csap, Kárpátalja, Ukraine, the daughter of Tsvi Hersch Aneis/Aneisz and Mariam/Miriam Auslander.
Caroline’s paternal grandmother was Ada Shils (the daughter of Benjamin Shils/Sjils and Dina Berkowitz). Ada’s parents were Russian Jews. Dina was the daughter of Harris Berkowitz and Netie.
Caroline’s maternal grandfather was Walter Everett Allan (the son of Everett William Allan and Annabel Lane Hall). Walter was born in Rhode Island. Caroline’s great-grandfather Everett was born in Rhode Island, the son of William M. Allan, who was Scottish, from Ardrossan, North Ayrshire Council; and of Agnes L. Speirs/Spiers, whose parents were also Scottish. Annabel was born in Connecticut, the daughter of William H. Hall, whose parents were English, and of Mary L./E., whose father was Irish, and whose mother was born in New Jersey.
Caroline’s maternal grandmother was named Daphne Grace Pierce (the daughter of George Pierce and Caroline). Daphne was born in Sevenoaks, Kent, England. Her family moved to Fort Frances, Ontario, Canada, when she was one, and she was raised there.
