Catherine Laga’aia is an Australian actress. She will play the title role in the live action film Moana . She has also starred on the show The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart .

She is the daughter of Sandie Jane, who has been a deputy principal at Sydney Secondary College Balmain Campus, and Jay Laga’aia, an actor and singer. Her father was born in Māngere, South Auckland, New Zealand, to Samoan parents. He was a member of the band the Consorts, who released the hit single “Māoris on 45.” Her uncle, Frank Laga’aia, was a member of Australian-based vocal harmony and dance group Ilanda. Catherine’s mother is English.

Catherine’s paternal grandfather was from Fa’aala, Palauli, Samoa.

Catherine’s paternal grandmother was from Leulumoega Tuai, Samoa.
