Celeste Buckingham is a naturalized Slovak singer and songwriter. She is one of the most popular singers in Czechia and Slovakia.
She was born in Switzerland, to an American father from Chicago, Illinois, who is of mostly Irish descent; and to an Iranian mother from Tehran. She grew up in Anchorage, Alaska, U.S. In 1999, her family moved to Borinka, outside of Bratislava, Slovakia.
Celeste’s paternal grandfather was Robert Owen Buckingham (the son of Brice Albert Buckingham and Jean Myrtle Ahern). Robert was born in Chicago, Cook, Illinois. Brice was born in Chicago, the son of Albert Raymond Buckingham and Edna Cecelia Clinton, whose father was born in England, with Irish ancestry, and whose mother was also Irish. Celeste’s great-grandmother Jean was born in Cook, the daughter of Owen E. Ahern, who had roots in Limerick, Ireland; and Mary Wheeler, whose parents were also Irish.
Celeste’s paternal grandmother was Mary Jo Roach (the daughter of James Markham Roach and Mary Margaret Lyon). Celeste’s grandmother Mary was born in Chicago, Cook, Illinois. James was born in Colorado Springs, El Paso, Colorado, to Irish-American parents, William Patrick Roach and Mary Elizabeth Markham. One of his grandparents was from County Clare, Ireland. Celeste’s great-grandmother Mary Margaret was born in Wilmette, Cook, the daughter of Irish-American parents, Leonard Peter Lyon and Anna Catherine Kearins.
Celeste’s maternal grandfather was Vahab Darvishpour Hassankiadeh (the son of Darvishali and Soghra Darvishpour). Vahab was born in Hasan Kiadeh, Iran. He is sometimes stated as having been born in Russia.
Celeste’s maternal grandmother was surnamed Koochaki. She was from Gilan, Iran.
