Charlotte’s paternal grandfather was George Wilkinson Ross, Jr. (the son of George Wilkinson Ross and Helen “Lena” Butzow). Charlotte’s grandfather George was born in Illinois. Charlotte’s great-grandfather George was the son of John A. Ross, whose parents were Scottish, from Dalkeith, Midlothian, and Kelso, Roxburghshire, respectively; and of Deborah Wilkinson, whose parents were Irish. Charlotte’s great-grandmother Helen was the daughter of German immigrants, Christian Butzow and Doris Dose.
Charlotte’s paternal grandmother was Louise Isabelle Harned (the daughter of Rowland Henry Harned and Mary Ann Reeder). Louise was born in Davenport, Iowa, and had partly deep American roots. Rowland was the son of Clark S. Harned and Isabella Turner Metcalf, whose own parents were English, from Yorkshire. Mary was the daughter of Charles C. Reeder and Mary Ann Gillman.
