Chely Wright is an American country music singer and gay rights activist.
Chely is the daughter of Cheri and Stan Wright. She was raised in the small town of Wellsville, Kansas. Chely is married to LGBT rights advocate Lauren Blitzer, with whom she has two children.

Chely has stated that one of her great-grandfathers had Native American ancestry. It is not clear if this Native American ancestry has been verified/documented.
Chely’s paternal grandfather was Alfred Sneed Wright (the son of Alfred S. Wright and Ida Mae/May Broyles). Chely’s grandfather Alfred was born in New Harmony, Posey County, Indiana. Chely’s great-grandfather Alfred was born in Illinois, the son of Andrew Jackson Wright and Malinda Sarah Sneed. Ida was born in Indiana, the daughter of James Houston Broyles and Mary Ann Cleveland.
