Chris Paul is an American professional basketball player. A point guard, he plays for the Los Angeles Clippers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was previously with the New Orleans Hornets, the Houston Rockets, the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Phoenix Suns, the Golden State Warriors, and the San Antonio Spurs. He has been referred to as part of the hypothetical “Banana Boat Team,” along with Carmelo Anthony , LeBron James , and Dwyane Wade .
Chris is the son of Robin Evette (Jones) and Charles Edward Paul, who are African-American. His father taught him and his brothers basketball and football. His brother C.J. played college basketball and now works as his manager.
He is married to Jada Crawley, with whom he has two children. He is a Baptist.
Chris’s paternal grandfather was named Bobby James Paul.
Chris’s paternal grandmother was Charlena Sloan (the daughter of Leffe Clinkscales and Mable Virginia Sloan). Charlena was born in Anderson County, North Carolina. Leffe was the son of Sylvester C. Clinkscales and Beulah Richardson. Mable was the daughter of Artie Mae Sloan. Sylvester’s grandfather, James Clinkscales, was born, c. 1850, in South Carolina, the son of Zachariah Clinkscales and Rosina “Sina”.
Chris’s maternal grandfather was Nathaniel Fredrick Jones (the son of William Brown “Willie” Jones and Roma Percy Oliver). Nathaniel was born in North Carolina. Roma was the daughter of James C. Oliver and Martha Grubbs. James’s grandfather, Peter Oliver, was born c. 1766, likely in King and Queen County, Virginia. He was purchased by a Moravian church in 1786, and baptized as Peter; the Moravians allowed slaves to join their congregation. Peter became one of the few documented black potters in North Carolina at the time; and later successfully petitioned for his freedom in Pennsylvania in 1800.
Chris’s maternal grandmother was Rachel Allean Hines (thee daughter of Roscoe Albert Hines and Dorothy Johnson). Rachel was born in North Carolina.
