Her aunt, Mary Grew, was an actress on the West End. Claire has a daughter, opera singer Anna Steiger, with her former husband, late actor Rod Steiger .
Claire’s paternal grandfather was Hyman Blumenthal (the son of Jacob Bigson Blumenthal and Annie/Henny Fell). Hyman was a Russian Jewish immigrant. Annie was the daughter of Mordechai Fell.
Claire’s paternal grandmother was named Caroline. Caroline was a Jewish emigrant, from either Russia or Riga, Latvia.
Claire’s maternal grandfather was Henry Grew/Griew (originally Gravitzky, the son of David Hirsch Zvi Griew/Gravitzky and Sophia). Henry was a Jewish emigrant, from Byten, Brest, Belarus. David was the son of Aron Gravitzky and Reizlya.
