Claude Rains was an English and American actor. His films included The Invisible Man (1933), The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938), Mr. Smith Goes to Washington , The Wolf Man (1941), Now, Voyager ; Casablanca , Kings Row , Notorious (1946), Lawrence of Arabia , and The Greatest Story Ever Told .
He was the son of Emily Eliza (Cox) and Fred Rains (Frederick William Rains), who was an actor and film director. He became a U.S. citizen in 1939. Claude was married to Rosemary Clark Schrode, until his death. He had a daughter, actress Jessica Rains, with his former wife Frances Propper.
Claude’s paternal grandfather was named Alfred Rains.
Claude’s paternal grandmother was named Eliza Adelaide Morley.
