Clint Eastwood is an American filmmaker, actor, director, producer, musician, and politician. He has twice won the Academy Award for Best Director , for Unforgiven (1992) and Million Dollar Baby (2004). He has starred in films including The Good, the Bad and the Ugly ; Dirty Harry , The Dead Pool , and In the Line of Fire . He has directed the films Play Misty for Me , High Plains Drifter , Breezy , The Eiger Sanction , The Outlaw Josey Wales , The Gauntlet , Broncho Billy , Firefox , Honkytonk Man , Sudden Impact , Pale Rider , Heartbreak Ridge , Bird (1988), White Hunter Black Heart , The Rookie (1990), A Perfect World , The Bridges of Madison County , Absolute Power , Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil , True Crime (1999), Space Cowboys , Blood Work , Mystic River , Flags of Our Fathers , Letters from Iwo Jima , Changeling (2008), Gran Torino , Invictus , Hereafter , J. Edgar , Jersey Boys , American Sniper , Sully , The 15:17 to Paris , The Mule (2018), Richard Jewell , Cry Macho , and Juror No. 2 . He served as Mayor of Carmel-by-the-Sea, California, from April 8, 1986 to April 12, 1988.
Clint is the son of Margaret Ruth “Betty” (Runner) and Clinton Eastwood. He has at least seven children. They include actress and makeup artist Kimber Eastwood , with actress and dancer Roxanne Tunis; actress and filmmaker Alison Eastwood and jazz musician Kyle Eastwood , with his former wife Maggie Johnson; actor Scott Eastwood , with his former partner Jacelyn Reeves; actress, model, and television personality Francesca Eastwood , with his former partner, actress Frances Fisher; and a daughter, actress Morgan Eastwood , with his former wife, reporter and television anchor Dina Ruiz .
Clint’s Eastwood line appears to trace to Richard Eastwood, who was born, c. 1620, in England. Richard moved to Virginia, U.S. One family tree traces Clint’s mother’s Runner line to William Hans Ulrich Runner and Christiannah Reitz/Ritz, who emigrated from Germany in the 1700s. Virginia planter and soldier Elijah McClanahan was Clint’s four times great-grandfather.
Clint’s paternal grandfather was Burr Eastwood (the son of Asa Bedesco/Bodisco Eastwood and Emma “Mabel” Young). Burr was born in Seneca Falls, Seneca, New York. Asa was born in Cicero, Onondaga, New York, the son of Lewis Washington Eastwood, whose maternal grandmother was English; and of Margaret Amanda Sullivan, whose parents were Irish, her father from Limerick and her mother from Thomastown. Clint’s great-grandmother Emma was born in Seneca Falls, the daughter of Talcott Burr Young and Sarah Curtis.
Clint’s paternal grandmother was Jesse Mabel Anderson (the daughter of Matthew Anderson and Lois/Louise Sabra/Helen A. Gaskill). Jesse was born in San Francisco, California. Matthew was born in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland, the son of James Anderson and Janet Marshall. Clint’s great-grandmother Lois was born in Vermont, the daughter of Joseph Gaskill and Sabra Weeks.
Clint’s maternal grandfather was Waldo Errol Runner (the son of Charles Claude “C.C.” Runner and Sophia Aurelia Bartholomew). Waldo was born in Buena Vista, Chaffee, Colorado. Charles was born in Alexandria, Virginia, the son of John Wesley/Henry Runner and Penelope Concordia Suckett/Jackson. Clint’s great-grandmother Sophia was born in Elmwood, Peoria, Illinois, the daughter of Edward Franklin Bartholomew and Cordelia Kellogg, and was of Colonial American descent, with deep roots in Connecticut.
Clint’s maternal grandmother was Virginia May McClanahan (the daughter of James William McClanahan and Matilda Belle “Mattie Bell” Boyle). Virginia was born in Missouri. James was born in Roanoke, the son of James Howard McClanahan and Virginia Lafayette White. Clint’s great-grandmother Matilda was the daughter of John Pearis/Patton Boyle and Eliza Davis Patterson.
