Colman Domingo is an American actor, writer, and television and stage director. He is known for his roles in the films Lincoln (2012), Red Hook Summer , All Is Bright , 42 , Lee Daniels’ The Butler , Selma , Assassination Nation , If Beale Street Could Talk , Lucy in the Sky , Zola , Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom , Without Remorse , Candyman (2021), Rustin , The Color Purple (2023), and Sing Sing , and, in voice role, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts and Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken ; on television’s Law & Order franchise, The Big Gay Sketch Show , Fear the Walking Dead , of which he has also directed episodes; and Euphoria ; and in many works on stage, particularly The Scottsboro Boys . He has also written the plays Up Jumped Springtime , Wild With Happy , and Dot , and co-written the book for Summer: The Donna Summer Musical , and Lights Out: Nat “King” Cole .
His mother, Edith, was African-American. His father is from Belize, and is of Guatemalan descent. He moved to San Francisco, California, after college, where he began his acting career.
Colman is married to Raúl Domingo.
