Roy was born in Montvale, Virginia, the son of William Chapman Gray and Sallie Rice Decker. Edith was born in Roanoke, the daughter of Joseph Garthwright Weaver and Nannie Cleora Crouch.
Conan’s paternal grandmother is Melonie Joy Huddleston (the daughter of Charles Elmer Huddleston and Alice Miriam Russ). Melonie was born in North Carolina. Charles was born in Roanoke, Virginia, the son of Emmett Channing Huddleston and Bertha Beatrice Lanham. Alice was born in Abbottsburg, North Carolina, the daughter of Thomas Clyde Russ and Ethel Jane Hobbs. One of Charles’s father’s ancestors was a son of French poet Agrippa d’Aubigné, and married a woman of half Powhatan Native American descent.
