Dale Hawerchuk was a Canadian professional ice hockey player, and coach. A centre, he played for the Winnipeg Jets, the Buffalo Sabres, the St. Louis Blues, and the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League (NHL), and for the Canada national team. He was the first overall pick in the 1981 NHL Entry Draft, where he was selected by the Jets. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame as a player in 2001.
Dale was the son of Eleanor and Orest Edward Hawerchuk. He was raised in Oshawa, Ontario. He was married to Crystal, with whom he had three children, including professional ice hockey player Ben Hawerchuk.
Dale’s maternal grandfather was Orville William Mitchell (the son of William John Mitchell and Eunice Heggart). William was born in Ontario, the son of William James Mitchell and Rohamaha Brown. Eunice was born in Ontario, the daughter of John Heggart and Eliza Jane King.
Dale’s maternal grandmother was Georgina Rebecca Brown (the daughter of Walter Emil Brown and Mary May Harrison).
