Dan Issel is an American professional basketball player, and coach. A center/power forward, he played for the Kentucky Colonels and the Denver Nuggets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He also coached the Denver Nuggets. He was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 1993. He is 6′9″.
He is the son of Elanor and Robert Issel, who operated a painting and decorating business. His brother, Greg Issel, was also a basketball player. Dan is married to Cheri, an artist, with whom he has two children.
Dan’s paternal grandfather was Johann/John William Issel (the son of Peter Issel and Elizabeth Doern). Johann was born in Austria. Peter was the son of Philip Issel and Carolina Mohr. Elizabeth was the daughter of Michael Doern and Eva Smallenberger.
