His father, Phillip Henney, is American-born, of German, Irish, English, Scottish, Scots-Irish/Northern Irish, and more distant French and Dutch, descent. His mother, Christine, was born in Busan, South Korea, and was adopted as an infant, by a white American couple.
Daniel is married to Japanese-American actress Ru Kumagai.
Daniel’s patrilineal line can be traced to Johann Christophel Hennig, who was born, c. 1650, in Mörschbach, Simmern, Rhineland, Prussia, the son of Hans Hennig and Maria.

Daniel’s great-grandmother Theresa was born in North Star, Gratiot, the daughter of Charles Willard/William Mallory/Mallery and Sarah Ann Conklin.
