Darryl Sittler is a Canadian professional ice hockey player. A centre, he played his professional career with the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Philadelphia Flyers, and the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1989.
Darryl is the son of Doris Ada and Kenneth Sittler. His brother, Gary Sittler, was also a professional ice hockey player, as are his children Ryan Sittler and Meaghan Sittler.
Darryl’s paternal grandfather was Jacob Arthur Sittler (the son of Solomon Gingrich Sittler and Mary Ann Foerch Kerchner/Karcher/Kercher). Jacob was born in Wellesley Township, Waterloo, Ontario, and was of German descent. Solomon was the son of John Clemmer Sittler and Lydia/Lydie Weber Gingrich, who were the children of American parents, from Pennsylvania Dutch (German) families. Darryl’s great-grandmother Mary Ann was born in Wellesley Township, the daughter of Jacob Kercher and Mary/Maria Foerch.
Darryl’s paternal grandmother was Lydia Luella Spencer (the daughter of Howard Spencer and Catherine Rintoul). Howard was born in Ontario, the son of Abel Howard Spencer and Ann Anderson. Catherine was the daughter of Henry Rintoul and Ann McGee.
Darryl’s maternal grandfather was Charles Edward Fink (the son of George Fink and Sophia Doersam). Charles was born in Waterloo, Ontario. George was born in Waterloo, the son of German parents, Henry Fink, from Hessen, and Elizabeth Kauffman/Kaufman/Kaufmann, from Berlin. Sophia was born in Waterloo, the daughter of Valentine Doersam, who was also German, from Beerfelden, Odenwaldkreis, Hessen.
Darryl’s maternal grandmother was Susanna Braun (the daughter of Jacob Braun and Annie Brandt). Susanna was born in Waterloo, Ontario. Jacob was born in Waterloo, the son of German parents, Louis Conrad Braun and Elizabeth Maria Baetz. Annie was born in Waterloo, also to German parents, Christian Peter Brandt and Caroline/Carolina Benzel/Bensal.
