Her brother, Bardo Novotny, is a guitarist for rock band Beauty School Dropout.
Dasha’s paternal grandfather was Russell Anthony Novotny (the son of Louis/Lewis James Nowotny and Frances Elizabeth Blanche Kalina). Russell was born in Belle Plaine, Iowa. Louis was the son of John Anton Nowotny, whose parents were Bohemian Czech; and of Anna G. Veverka, who was from Pardubice, Czechia. Dasha’s great-grandmother Frances was the daughter of Bohemian Czech parents, Frantisek Kalina and Frantiska Turek.
Dasha’s paternal grandmother was Bernardine/Bernadine Kelly (the daughter of Edward Joseph Kelly and Mary Ellen Crotty). Bernardine was born in Wagner, South Dakota. Edward was the son of Irish parents, Thomas Kelly and Mary Ellen Hickey, with roots in Kilkenny. Dasha’s great-grandmother Mary Ellen was the daughter of Christopher Chris Crotty and Mary Ann Meyocks, who were the children of Irish parents, with Mary Ann’s family having been from County Mayo.
Dasha’s maternal grandfather was William T. Joines (the son of George Wesley Joines and Allie Pearl Carrigan). William was born in Wilkesboro, North Carolina. George was the son of William Thomas Joines and Dovie Jane Brock. Dasha’s great-grandmother Allie was the daughter of John Everette Carrigan and Mary Mollie Jane Smith. Allie was a descendant of a brother of Dutch painter Rembrandt.
