David Alan Grier is an American actor and comedian. His roles include the shows Damon , Life with Bonnie , The Carmichael Show , and A Series of Unfortunate Events , and the films Streamers , A Soldier’s Story , In the Army Now , Blankman , Tales from the Hood , Jumanji , Stuart Little , Return to Me , Baadasssss! , Bewitched , Dance Flick , and Native Son .

He is the son of Aretas, a school teacher, and William Henry Grier, a psychiatrist and writer. His father was from Birmingham, Alabama, and co-published the book Black Rage , in 1968. He has a daughter with his former wife, contemporary art curator Christine Y. Kim. Christine is Korean-American.

David’s paternal grandfather was named William Henry Grier.
