David Campese is an Australian rugby union player. A wing and fullback, he played for Petrarca Padova and Amatori Rugby Milano, as well as New South Wales and the Australia national team. He also played for New South Wales Waratahs in super rugby, and the Australia sevens team. He coached Singapore, Sharks, as an assistant; and Tonga sevens. He has scored a record 64 tries in 101 Test Matches for Australia, and is regarded as one of the greatest rugby players of all time.
David is the son of Joan and Gianantonio Campese. His father was from Montecchio Precalcino, Vicenza, Veneto, Italy. His mother’s background is not publicly known. David is the uncle of rugby league player Terry Campese, who is the son of David’s sister Lisa Campese.
Fijian rugby player Campese Ma’afu is named after him.
