David Johansen was an American singer, songwriter, musician, and actor. He was the singer of rock band New York Dolls. His roles included the films Scrooged , Tales from the Darkside: The Movie , Freejack , and Mr. Nanny . He was also known as David Jo Hansen and Buster Poindexter.
He was the son of Helen (Cullen), a librarian, and Gunvold Johansen, an opera singer and insurance salesman. He was married to artist Mara Hennessey, until his death.
