David Karp is an American web developer, entrepreneur, webmaster, and blogger. He founded microblogging and social networking website Tumblr, of which he was CEO. He also created software consulting company Davidville.
He is the son of Barbara, a science teacher, and Michael D. Karp, a film and television composer. David’s father is of Jewish or part Jewish ancestry. David’s mother has German, Irish, and Norwegian roots. He was raised on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.
One of David’s paternal great-grandfathers was named Max Karp.
David’s maternal grandfather is Kenneth Allen “Ken” Ackerman (the son of Clarence George Ackerman and Agnes L. Knutson). Kenneth was born in Minnesota. Clarence was the son of Nicholas Ackerman, whose parents were German immigrants, and of Canadian immigrant Ellen Victoria Swain, of Kingston, Ontario, who was of Irish descent.
David’s maternal grandmother is named Catherine L. Roberts.
