David S. Goyer is an American film director, screenwriter, film producer, novelist, and comic book writer. He has directed the films Zig Zag (2002), Blade: Trinity , The Invisible (2007), and The Unborn (2009), and wrote all but the third of them. He has also written the films Death Warrant , Kickboxer 2: The Road Back , Demonic Toys , Arcade (1993), The Crow: City of Angels , Blade (1998), Blade II , and Man of Steel , and co-wrote the films Robert A. Heinlein’s The Puppet Masters , Dark City , Batman Begins , Jumper , Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance , Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice , and Terminator: Dark Fate . On television, he co-created the shows Sleepwalkers , FreakyLinks , FlashForward , and Foundation , created the show Da Vinci’s Demons , developed Blade: The Series and Krypton , and co-developed the series Constantine and The Sandman ; he also wrote for all of the above, and for Guillermo Del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities . He also directed episodes of his FlashForward , Da Vinci’s Demons , and Foundation . He wrote the made-for-tv movies The Substitute (1993) and Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. (1998), and created and wrote the narrative podcasts Batman Unburied and The Riddler: Secrets in the Dark . He has also been billed as David Goyer, and, one time each, as Cynthia Verlaine and Ricardo Festiva.

David was raised by his mother. He is married to Marina Black.

David’s paternal grandfather was Wilmer Frederick Goyer (the son of Albert William Goyer and Ella Hannah Dietsch). Wilmer was born in Ohio. Albert was born in Ohio, the son of Georg Heinrich Goyer/Gayer, who was German, and of Catherine Ault, whose parents were German. Ella was born in Ohio, the daughter of John Frederick Dietsch/Ditsch, whose parents were from Alsace, France, and of Hannah Shrote/Schroth, whose father was German, and whose mother was the daughter of German parents.

David’s paternal grandmother was named Mary Elizabeth Morey. Mary Elizabeth was born in Ohio. According to the 1930 United States Census, she was the adopted daughter of Andrew/Andry Morey, who was from the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and of Mary Ola Hochstetter, who was mostly of German, English, Swiss-German, Scottish, and Dutch descent.

David’s maternal grandfather was Theodore Jay Levitan (the son of Samuel Clemens Levitan and Elinor Pearl Riche/Rachovsky). Theodore was born in Colorado. Samuel was born in Illinois, to parents from Poland/Russia, Harry Levitan and Lena Miskutz. Elinor was born in Colorado, to parents from Poland, Isaac Abraham Rachovsky and Fanny Goldberg.

David’s maternal grandmother was Lucille Turoff (the daughter of Bernhard/Bernard D. Turoff and Hattie Ethel Kagan). Lucille was born in Illinois. Bernhard was born in Russia. Hattie was born in Illinois, to parents from Russia, Abraham Kagan and Nettie Resnick.
