Demna Gvasalia (დემნა გვასალია) is a Georgian fashion designer. He has been the creative director of Balenciaga, and now Gucci; and co-founded the brand Vetements, with his brother Guram Gvasalia.
He was born in Sokhumi, Abkhazia, to a Georgian father, Guram, and a Russian mother, Elvira. He has stated :
[My mother is] part Russian and part many other things, like French, Jewish, Albanian. But she’s mostly Russian and my dad is Georgian.

Her brother has also stated , “We are a mix of eight nationalities and three religions: we have a grandmother who is Jewish, a grandfather who is Muslim, and a father who is Christian.”
His family left for Tbilisi during the war between Abkhazia and Georgia, and later lived in Ukraine; they moved to Düsseldorf, Germany in 2001. He studied fashion design in Antwerp, Belgium. Demna is married to French musician Loïk Gomez. He speaks Russian, Georgian, English, French, German, Italian, and Flemish.
