Don Mattingly is an American professional baseball player, coach, and manager. A first baseman, he played for the New York Yankees of Major League Baseball (MLB). He coaches the Philadelphia Phillies. He previously coached the New York Yankees, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Toronto Blue Jays, and managed the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Miami Marlins. He is nicknamed “The Hit Man” and “Donnie Baseball.”
He has four children with his former wife Kim Sexton. Two of their children, Taylor and Preston, played professional baseball.
Don’s paternal grandfather was Joseph Archibald Mattingly (the son of Daniel Columbus Mattingly and Elizabeth Henrietta/Harriett Taylor Bean). Joseph was born in Kentucky. Daniel was the son of William Albin Mattingly and Sarah Jane Rhodes. Elizabeth was the daughter of William Polycarp Bean and Anastasia L. Medley.
Don’s paternal grandmother was Caroline Virginia Wells (the daughter of William Perry Wells and Mary Ellen Elliott). Caroline was born in Kentucky. William was the son of David A. Wells and Nancy Handcock/Hancock. Mary Ellen was the daughter of James Elliott and Mary E. Daugherty.
