Dorothy “Dottie” Schwartz was an American singer. She was a member of The Chordettes, a female pop music quartet founded in 1946 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, and known for their songs “Mr. Sandman” and “Lollipop.” Other members of the group were, at various points, Carol Buschmann , Janet Ertel , Lynn Evans Mand , Margie Needham, Jinny Osborn , Nancy Overton , and Alice Mae Spielvogel.
Dorothy was the daughter of Anna Maria Emmiline and Arthur Gustav Hummitzsch. Her father was a German emigrant. Her maternal grandparents were also German, from Saxony.
Dorothy’s paternal grandfather was Carl Hummitzsch (the son of Johann Carl Hummitzsch and Amalia Angela Zeitsch). Johann was born in Wüstenbrand, Chemnitzer Land, Saxony.
Dorothy’s paternal grandmother was Aurelia/Emilie Kaiser (the daughter of Christian Friedrich Kaiser and Johanne Rosine Schmidt). Emilie was born in Kahla, Sachsen-Altenburg, Thüringen. Christian was born in Kahla, the son of Johann Bernhard Kayser and Marie Dorothee Gernhardt. Johanne was born in Bremsnitz, Sachsen-Altenburg, the daughter of Johann Wilhelm Schmidt.
Dorothy’s maternal grandfather was Reinhold H. Kuhnert (the son of Wilhelm Kuhnert and Emilie Berner). Reinhold was from Dresden.
Dorothy’s maternal grandmother was Carolina Stegner (the daughter of Johann Stegner and Barbara “Anna” Schindhelm). Carolina was from Thueringerwold.
